Every year in the country, more than 56,000 women die due to complications and diseases during pregnancy. To improve the condition of pregnant women and newborns, the Central Government has started Janani Suraksha Yojana JSY. On delivery of pregnant women in JSY, Rs 6000 is given directly to their bank account.This amount of assistance in JSY is given on the basis of providing adequate nutrition to the mother and child.More than one crore women are getting help annually from Janani Suraksha Yojana. The government is spending Rs 1600 crore annually on JSY. JSY was launched on 12 April 2005.

What is Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)?

Janani Suraksha Yojana is a safe motherhood program under the National Health Mission (NHM). Its objective is to promote institutional and safe delivery of poor pregnant women. The central government gives financial help to pregnant women for this.

Every year more than 13 lakh newborns die in India within one year of birth. The thinking of the government is that if financial help is provided to pregnant women, it will help in improving the health of mother and child. Under Janani Suraksha Yojana, all the check-up of pregnant women and delivery of the child are done free of cost.

What is the objective of Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)?
Janani Suraksha Yojana aims to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality at the time of child birth. For this, the government wants to encourage the delivery of children in government hospitals.

What are the economic benefits of Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)?
Under the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), the government provides financial assistance of six thousand rupees to every pregnant woman to encourage delivery in government hospitals.

Under the Janani Suraksha Yojana, Rs 1,400 is given to pregnant women in rural areas and Rs 1,000 to women in urban areas, while under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, they get another Rs 5,000.

For five years after delivery, they keep getting messages regarding vaccination of mother and child.

What is the process of availing JSY?
To take advantage of this scheme, a pregnant woman has to register in a government hospital for her delivery and child birth. Women who have registered under Janani Suraksha Yojana are given cash financial assistance by the government at the time of delivery and after.

They complete all the formalities from the identification of pregnant women to admitting them in the hospital and providing them the necessary facilities.
