Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) : Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana has been launched to provide security to the farmers of the country. Under this scheme, insurance cover is provided by the central government to the farmers in case of crop failure i.e. the insurance claim amount will be given to the farmers in case of crop failure. The Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme has been replaced by the earlier two schemes by the government . Among these 2 schemes, the first scheme was the National Agricultural Insurance Scheme and the second was the Modified Agricultural Insurance Scheme. Both these schemes had many drawbacks. Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme has been launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the benefit of farmers. The scheme was launched on 13 May 2016 at Sihore, Madhya Pradesh. Under PMFBY, if a farmer’s crop is damaged, provision is made to provide insurance cover to the farmers in such a situation. Purpose of Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme
The main objective of launching the Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Yojana by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to provide financial assistance to farmers suffering from crop losses due to natural calamities so as to encourage farmers to adopt innovative and modern farming practices and increase farmers’ income.
To ensure stability and continuity in their cultivation. Under this scheme, different funds are provided by the government to farmers on crop damage . Farmers of the country can get benefit by applying under this scheme.
Eligibility of farmer to avail the scheme
Under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, it is the responsibility of farmers to report crop damage to the agriculture department within 72 hours of crop damage due to natural calamities. Apart from this, the farmer has to make a written complaint to the agriculture department of the district administration.
You must give full details of your crop damage in writing. As soon as the complaint is received, action will be taken by the district administration through the agriculture department. For this, the information is immediately given to the insurance company . After which, after receiving the information from the insurance company, the process of providing the insurance cover to the farmer begins.
Benefits available under PMFBY Scheme
Farmers have to claim the loss to avail the benefit of Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme. A farmer can claim insurance in case of crop damage or other crop failure due to natural calamity. Under the Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme, different amounts have been fixed for crops .
For cotton crop, the claim amount is a maximum of Rs. 36,282 per acre is given. The insurance claim amount is Rs.37,484 for paddy crop, Rs.17,639 for millet crop, Rs.18,742 for maize crop and Rs.16,497 for gram crop.
